Methlick Cricket Club, Aberdeenshire
Weather

Welcome to Methlick Cricket Club and the 2010 season.

‘Although on the committee for many years this is my first as Chair. I am very excited about the club and would like to thank the previous Chair, Nigel Briggs and his committee for all their hard work over the last 3 years and of course thank the new committee in advance!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors and the wider support of people in the community and club who  are not on the committee.
This is a cricket club that welcomes all from experienced cricketers to first timers and anyone in between from both genders. We have an active youth policy and many youngsters now play in the senior teams. The club is led by its members and a management committee who work very hard for the development and future of the club.
2010 is an exciting year for us, as we strive once again to be promoted to Grade 1 for the first time. We have added additional drainage on the park to make the outfield more playable in poor conditions and cement the playing surface as the best in Aberdeenshire.
I look forward to playing and meeting all of you through the course of the year.’

 Mark Colley-Davies (Chair)

Methlick Gala Day - (Cancelled)
Sunday 29th of August 2010

What should have been a fun day was cancelled due to the weather conditions from the previous nights storm, which swept through Methlick and the surrounding areas, destroying one tent completely and uprooting another.
The one event which did take place along the River Ythan was the "Duck Race" , and in record time from previous years, one ticket holder won both 2nd and 3rd place and was celebrated in the local Hostelry the Ythanview Hotel.
Members who had been involved with the Gala Day where thanked for all their efforts yesterday in tent erecting, and all the other duties surrounding the Gala event and not forgetting the few visitors who came along to watch.

The Aberdeenshire Cricket Association(ACA) 125th Year

Tuesday 13th of July 2010

The Lairds cricket ground has been chosen as the venue to host a game between the ACA's President Versus the Vice President, to celebrate the 125th year of the ACA on the above date. The Club feels very honoured for our ground to be chosen, it is one of the best grounds within Aberdeenshire, and most of the thanks for this should go to those members who look after the cricket ground. This is part of the week’s celebration of the ACA's 125th year; further matches are being held at other cricket venues, all are welcome to come along and watch the game.

Result - Tuesday 13th of July 2010
The result of the game "Presidents" side against "Vice-Presidents" side was a victory for the "Vice-Presidents" side. The Presidents XI  scored 131 all out and the Vice-Presidents XI scored 133 for 6 winning by Four wickets. The teams were made up of members from Sixteen clubs within the Aberdeenshire grades. Three of our own club members, Colin Addison, Brian Anderson and Graham Gerrie were selected to play in the match, Brian Anderson bowling had Two wickets off Ten runs for his efforts.

Cricket Friendly's
Saturday 10th of April 2010

Be advised the internal club game "Briggs" bowl is planned for the above date, all
club members are asked to notify if they can attend, secondly due to weather conditions
this game may have to be cancelled, so check here for changes and/or contact the club.

Result - Saturday 10th of April 2010
The result of the game "Captains" side against "Vice-Captains" side  was a victory for the "Captains" side, led by Mark Woodhouse a reasonable victory against Stuart Andersons side, the eventual score was 147 for 9, against 65 all out. It has to be said that both teams did well, playing on the artificial wicket, the pitch was extremely soft in areas which proved very hard work for fielders.
The game was followed with a Barbecue and a bottle of Malt Whiskey at the Ythenview.

Saturday 17th of April 2010
A friendly against Ellon has been arranged for the above date away at Gordon park,
contact the club for availability.

Result - Saturday 17th of April 2010
The game took place at Gordon Park, and although lacking in players both teams had a joyful
game, with Ellon scoring 186 to Methlick's 126, but wish to thank Ellon for lending several of their members to bolster our team and being a Friendly everyone got a bat.

Clubhouse
The "Clubhouse" website, designed to deal with issues of  "Availability", for members, teams, and games.etc, is still active should members of the MCC wish to use it. It is a free website for our use, although feedback from concerned members that feel it does not necessarily resolve all of the issues when checking members availability for games and that, the more direct approach of a telephone call is more appropriate and conclusive.

At the current time the link "Availability"  will be left in place and will continue to be managed however, should it be felt by the majority of the club members not to be of beneficial use, the site account will be cancelled at the end of this season.

Match Reports in Brief
Saturday 24th of April
1st XI Methlick vs 1XI Arrowdawn Gordonians - Countesswells

Facing the team dropping down from Grade 1 was never going to be easy for the season’s opening game and so it proved to be for Methlick 1st XI against Gordonaians
at Countesswells.

Saturday 1st of May

Saturday 8th of May
1st XI Methlick vs Anchorians - Duthie Park 1

The Duthie Park wicket, despite the weather conditions during the week, had a hard, dry surface and looked a good batting strip. Although losing the toss, Methlick were put in to bat against the pace attack of Anchorians. Conti

Saturday 15th of May
1st XI Methlick vs St. Ronald - King's College

Sunshine and opera crowds welcomed Methlick to King’s College on Saturday with MCC hoping for a festival of batting to accompany the festival of music. Conti

Saturday 22nd of May
1st XI Methlick vs Caledonian - Lairds

A wet Friday afternoon had dampened Lairds, but warm weather on Saturday meant a drying wicket and outfield and raised the importance in winning the toss.  This was duly achieved and Caley were put in to bat. Conti

Saturday 29th of May
1st XI Methlick vs 2nd Banchory - Lairds

Rain throughout the week meant a very soggy Lairds for groundsman, Dennis Pratt, to deal with and despite a warm and bright start to Saturday, the decision was made to play on the artificial wicket. Past history against Banchory had usually seen Methlick scoring runs and then a dogged defence from Banchory to save the game. With the potential for more rain the toss was important and the Methlick skipper won and put the visitors in to bat.  Conti

Sunday 6th of June
Methlick vs Kintore(Village Cup) - Lairds

Sunday's match at Lairds produced a well fought encounter resulting in the closest possible finish. Methlick were invited to bat in damp, overcast conditions and got off to a cracking start thanks, in the main, to a rapid 43 from Stuart Kennedy. Conti

Saturday 12th of June
1st XI Methlick vs Fraserburgh - Lairds

Looming, thunderous clouds hanging over Lairds threatened a storm, but not a drop of rain fell on Saturday, the only thunder coming from the bat of Stuart Kennedy. The fixture against friendly local rivals from the Broch is always one of the most enjoyable of the season and, as usual, another nail-biting finish was in store. Conti

Saturday 26th of June
1st XI Methlick vs Arrowdawn Gordonians - Lairds

Saturday saw the beginning of the second half of the season with the home fixture against one of Grade 2’s promotion contenders; Gordonians comfortably winning the previous match by 6 wickets. However, with a completely changed side for the visitors and a very strong Methlick line up, a much closer game was on the cards. Conti

Saturday 3rd of July
1st XI Methlick vs Crescent - Lairds

With four teams neck-and-neck chasing for a promotion spot, a win on Saturday was vital for Methlick to stay in the hunt. Plenty of sunshine and a strong batting line up encouraged captain Woodhouse to buck the trend, opting to bat first on a hard wicket, opening the batting with in-form Stuart Anderson. Conti

Saturday 17th of July
1st XI Methlick vs St. Ronalds - Lairds

After the high scoring draw in the away leg in Aberdeen, runs were always going to be vitally important at Lairds. Stuart Anderson was still on holiday but the batting was buoyed by the return of Phil Cox and, after losing the toss, Woodhouse and Cox opened the batting on an overcast day that looked perfect for swing bowling. Conti

Saturday 24th of July
1st XI Methlick vs 2nd XI Banchory -  Burnett Park

With Banchory almost certainly doomed to relegation to Grade 3, Methlick’s victory was seen as a foregone conclusion and, although promoting some of the younger squad members in favour of some established batsmen, a strong side turned up at Burnett Park. With the home side winning the toss, as expected Methlick were asked to bat first. Conti

Saturday 7th of August
1st XI Methlick vs Anchorians -  Lairds

Mighty Murphy Mangles Anchorians

The visit of Anchorians was expected to be one of the toughest games of the season, particularly after a convincing victory against Methlick at Duthie Park earlier in the season. The covers had given vital protection to what would have been a very damp wicket after the week’s rain, but there was enough grass and the overhead conditions looked prime for bowling and captain Woodhouse, winning the toss, duly put Anchorians in to bat. With plenty of bowling on offer the tactic was to have regular bowling changes to stop the batsmen falling in to a comfort zone. Conti

Saturday 14th of August
1st XI Methlick vs Crathie -  Balmoral Est.

For the penultimate game of the season at Balmoral, Methlick had a wealth of bowlers to choose from on the usual grassy track. After last week’s destruction of the Anchorian’s batting this was an ominous sign for Crathie as MCC put them in to bat on a warm, sunny day looking to keep up the momentum to finish in the top four of Grade 2. Conti

Saturday 21st of August
1st XI Methlick vs Fraserburgh -  East Links.

The final league game of the season saw MCC playing locals Fraserburgh at a sunny but windy Broch. Always a good fixture against our friendly rivals, Methlick needed a win to have a chance of a place in the top four and, after losing the toss, were put in to bat. Conti
