Match Reports in Brief

Saturday 27th of June
1st XI Away vs Queens Cross

MCC  against Queens Cross is always sure to provide a tense, exciting game and after last year’s cup final defeat , Methlick have always looked for revenge. The first encounter this season was rained off after a very powerful innings from their opponents, and a narrow defeat was handed out after a splendid game at Lairds.  Conti:-

Saturday 20th of June

1st XI Away vs Caledonian

Once again, the threat of rain disappeared as Methlick headed into Aberdeen for Saturday’s game against their Duthie Park opponents, and matters proceeded well as the toss was won and Caley were put into bat. Although one of the opening bowlers, Murphy, was unable to bowl because of injury,a strong line up was still on show.  Conti:-

Saturday 13th of June

1st XI  Home vs. Aberdeen Grammar FPs

Once again, with a full weekend of cricket, dark skies loomed above Methlick as the home side prepared to entertain the league leaders, Aberdeen Grammar Former Pupils. The benefits of investment in covers for the wicket showed through as once again a fantastic batting strip was on offer, and a run-fest was in the offing. Conti:-

Saturday 13th of June
2nd XI Away vs 2nd XI Gordonians

Early morning rain in Methlick suggested we might not play at all, but Aberdeen was dry and bright. We arrived at the Robert Gordon fields not knowing if, due a morning school match, we’d be on the plastic or grass. Fortunately the school boys were almost done in their match so after 20 minutes or so the grass wicket was clear for us to begin. Conti:-

Sunday 14th of June
1st XI Home vs Queens Cross - (Bon Accord Cup)

One of the keynotes of Methlick’s season has been that in all the cup matches played, we have been up against the teams that we would expect to face in the later stages, and Sunday’s game against Queens Cross was no different, being a replay of last years final. Conti:-
